Here’s what Laurie Neubauer says about her commute to Network222

I’ve lived in the Tenney Park area for 25 years and have been a walker for a long time. Every day for more than two years I’ve commuted to Network222 on foot. It’s 1.84 miles one way according to Google. (By the way, you can check out walking routes at www.webwalking.com/or www.communitywalk.com/) I can get to work in under a half an hour, and just to add variety, I choose from 3-4 routes.

What do you like best about your commute?

There are so many things. First of all, I can reliably get to work on time. I don’t have to worry about delays caused by traffic jams, car trouble, or late buses. Also, I’m energized. When I arrive in the morning I never need a cup of coffee, and in the evening, I have a burst of energy to get supper started. My walk is my fitness routine. On my way home, I like listening to All Things Considered on my headset and running into neighbors I can chat with.

What’s the hardest thing?

Even in the coldest weather I do get overheated and, to regulate my temperature, have to keep shedding layers and carrying them. This year the walking conditions were the worst in 30 years. At times I had to watch my step and seek out snow cover to avoid slipping. Also, in the rare case of a downpour during my commute time, I delay my start in order to avoid the worst of it and have on occasion taken a bus.

Do you have a favorite spot within walking distance of Network222?

My favorite destination is the Wednesday Farmer’s Market, open every week from April to October.
