Here’s what David Hughes says about his commute to Network222:

I live on the near west side and have a number of options for commuting without a car, so we’re able to avoid the expense of owning two vehicles. Depending on the circumstances, I bike, bus, drive alone, or get a ride from my wife on her way to work. When I’m making a decision about how to commute on a given day, I’m influenced by a number of things: weather, since I don’t like to bike in very hot weather; how much I have to carry with me; how much time I have in the morning; and whether I have to use my car to travel during the work day.

What are the pros and cons of your commuting modes?

Driving is convenient and quick, so when I’m in a hurry, I’m glad to catch a ride with my wife to get to 222 in 10 minutes or so. Biking or taking the bus doesn’t take much longer—both methods get me to work in 15-20 minutes, plus I get some exercise and feel more in touch with my surroundings. I know it’s healthiest for me and for our community when I bike or bus, and I feel good about reducing my carbon footprint. I may try biking to work this winter, something I did when I lived in Chicago.

Do you have a favorite spot within walking distance of Network222?

When I eat out, I walk to the Square or down State Street. Some of my favorite spots for lunch are Mediterranean Cafe, Rising Sun Deli, the Union, or vendors on the Square or on the Library Mall.
